Wearing Skirts in Winter

Cooler weather is approaching, and for some, it's already arrived. The leaves have turned and we are gearing up for the holiday season.
(Okay, maybe you aren't yet, but I am :)

Some women struggle with wearing skirts in the winter because they fear drafts will chill their legs. This is a reasonable concern! But easily remedied :)

Try layering heavier tights or leggings (whichever you prefer) under your winter skirts. (One thing to note: Some fabrics tend to cling to each other, particularly in the dry, brisk winter air. Before going out, check to see if your's is. It will save you a lot of hassle. To remedy this, simply wear a silky slip of some kind!)

Next, wear boots, especially if you are wearing leggings. There are all kinds out there to cater to every woman's style.

Tall boots, short boots, flat boots and heeled boots! Find one you like.

My favorite is to pair a nice, warm, wool skirt, like the one below, (those are usually lined, so you don't have to worry about clinging) with leggings and boots.

Now some inspiration :)

Have fun and be warm!

Oh! And before I leave you alone. Let me just share with you this recipe from Pinterest for Pumpkin Spice Latte. Won't THAT warm you up?!
(Just click on the picture and it will take you to the recipe. Please note, I have yet to try this myself, but it looks so amazing I just had to share it with y'all :)

Maternity Clothes on Zulily

Hey everyone! (Or should I say expectant women and their friends :)
I recently found Zulily. I love it! Its basically different companies that promote big sales that they have, on Zulily-daily deals for moms, babies and kids. (Each company only has a few days, so its constantly new stuff.) It's like discount shopping tons of different brands all on one site.
Now, you're probably wondering if I got a job advertising for them. Nope! Just really, really like what I see on there.

This morning I found these really cute maternity tops and wanted to share! This company's sale ends early, early Sunday morning. So you have the rest of the day and tomorrow (Sat.) to get them.

So if you know of anyone that is expecting, feel free to pass it along. (It would also be a great gift.)

One of the things I really like about it, is you can use pay-pal. There are days when there isn't any really good deals, and then days that there are.

So... here goes...

Happy shopping and saving!

Kylie Bisutti- "I want to honor God and my husband"

"Victoria's Secret was my absolutely biggest goal in life, and it was all I ever wanted career-wise. I actually loved it while I was there, it was so much fun and I had a blast. But the more I was modeling lingerie, and lingerie isn't clothing, I just started becoming more uncomfortable with it because of my faith...
I'm Christian, and reading the Bible more, I was becoming more convicted about it."
'It was pretty crazy because I finally achieved my biggest dream, the dream that I always wanted, but when I finally got it, it wasn't all that I thought it would be,' she said.

'Especially being married I just wanted to keep my marriage sacred because divorce rates now in America are pretty high, and I just want to do everything I can to keep my marriage special.'

Bisutti had decided to leave the lingerie company awhile ago. On Dec. 1, the day after the nationally televised Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in which Bisutti didn’t appear, the model posted to her Twitter page, “For all of you that were looking for me in the Victoria's Secret runway show this year, I wasn’t in it. I have decided not to model lingerie because I personally feel that I am not honoring God or my husband by doing it. My marriage is very important & with divorce rates rising I want to do everything I can to protect my marriage and be respectful to my husband. God graciously gave me this marriage and this life and my desire is to live a Godly faithful life, I don’t however judge others for what they do. Everyone is convicted on different levels.”

“He was so, so supportive of me and I’m so thankful that he let me grow and let me come to this decision on my own,” she said of her husband.
Bisutti’s decision to leave the lingerie company was also spurred on by an encounter with her 8-year-old cousin.
“I was doing my makeup in the mirror one day and she was watching me,” Bisutti said. “She looked at me and was like, ‘You know, I think I want to stop eating so I can look like you.’”
“It just broke my heart because she looks up to me and I didn’t want to be that type of person that she thought she had to do that to be beautiful,” she said. “Thousands of girls that think that being beautiful is an outer issue and really it’s a heart issue.”

Bisutti hasn’t completely given up on modeling just yet. She also posted to her Twitter page, “I am still modeling but only with brands that respect my decision not to wear lingerie. I am also doing TV work now :).”

She appears with Jennifer Lopez in a new Kohl’s commercial, and she’s working on a new television show to hit the CW in September. “My goal is just to be a better role model for the youth. I just want them to see me as somebody that they can look up to and somebody that’s going to be dressing appropriately and I’m not going to get into things that I wouldn’t want them to be getting into,” Bisutti told FOX411.

“I want to go over the top because I don’t think enough people go over the top about how serious all this is. I just want people to see something different about me because I have that faith and I think it’s so important for everyone to have.”

I applaud her for taking a stand. People change.
"I'm Christian, and reading the Bible more, I was becoming more convicted about it." She admits she was wrong. It's sick! Christians accuse her of false motives and insincerity and others of being prudish. If you don't want people to harass you for your beliefs, don't harass others for theirs! And, give her time to prove herself before you jump to comculsions. That's my opinion :)

(Btw, I saw this morning that at least one of my fellow bloggers had already posted about this, so I apologize. I actually did the draft for this post last night and then when I saw that this morning, I didn't click on it, because I didn't want it to influence my post. Lol! There was a really good interview she did with abc news, but the played pix of her modeling for VS, so I just quoted what she said.)

None of this belongs to me, I compiled them from other sources :)

Belated thoughts on the English royal wedding.

I have a great appreciation for the Duchess of Cambridge. You see, I worked in the bridal industry and got married myself, shortly before the royal wedding in England. I can attest to the fact that dresses covering even as much as her's did were very hard to find. And you can forget bridesmaids' dresses with sleeves, too.
I know that to most of you this is old news, but I was on a cruise ship in the middle of the atlantic, watching the whole thing live, on my honeymoon. So I'm just now getting around to this :)
While personally I would prefer more coverage, I have to hand it to her, it was very tasteful in this day and age. She also made it possible for other brides, wishing for a little more than the status quo, to get it!

Since I worked at David's Bridal and know the types of gowns brides had to work with before, I am posting pix of the dresses they released after the wedding.

Yes, thank you!

I love the flowergirls' dresses!

Anyhow, that's all for now. I was keeping a journal during our honeymoon and recorded my thoughts on their wedding, but will spare y'all the long and drawn-out details :)
And remember, feedback is always appreciated! I've tried to make it easier to do so because I realize not everyone has loads of time.

I know I'm a terribly sporatic blogger. *sigh*
What to do about it? I've thought about having a blogging marathon where I post something on each of my blogs at least twice a week. But I worry that I will run out of interesting things and bore you. Which in my opinion is worse than not doing anything.
Same thing goes for my facebook page. You know when you "like" a page and then all the sudden your homepage is full of their posts? That to me is annoying, but so is total silence. Ugh! A balance please?!
Another problem I have is posting a blog but then not sharing it on my page.

Omw ladies! I just found this awesome website, and they have some really beautiful dresses.
Check it out for yourself! Dress and Tux.com

Really like some of the details on this one!

And this one, I really like the sleeve length!

Not much into the princess look? Now this is elegant! Now just imagine the neckline modified to a sweetheart neckline. Beauty defined...

I love being able to look online for ideas. Someday when I open my own shop... Lol!

The Art of Layering

While striving to dress modestly, most of us, sooner or later, come across the cutest shirt that is perfect. However, the neckline maybe lower than we are comfortable with or the sleeves-too short. And that, dear friends, is when the art of layering comes in handy.
I say "art" because it is. Layering is one of those things that can make or break a wardrobe. Done poorly, it can become the ultimate example of frumpy. Done tastefully, it can broaden the horizons of our wardrobe considerably.

Christopher & Banks is one of my favorite suppliers for layering. They have tons of different colors. I started with some neutrals-white, off-white, tan, brown and black-and am slowly collecting pretty colors like: aqua, turquoise, ect. They are a little pricey, but they have lots of sales. Right now, they are having a sale where if you buy one clearance item, you can get the second free. (I don't know if this is only online though.) They also have skirts and dresses, but their outlet selection is a lot better than the online store.

My basic all around base layer: it solves low necklines and thin fabric.

If that is a little high-necked for you, how 'bout this one?

Have an adorable sleeveless shirt? I love the sleeve length coverage on this T!

Want something a little less? This is a great layer as well.
EVERYDAY Fit Square Neck Tee - Christopher & Banks
This is one of my favs. I just layer a contrasting shell under it, and its a little dressier due to the sleeve length.

Here's a few other ones that I thought were cute.
